Week 3

At this point, we’ve written the first best drafts of our writing and have been peer-reviewed by each other. Some things we’ve done in class that have been super helpful in my writing process are going over the rhetorical situation analysis and my peer review feedback. I’ve always had problems with vagueness in my writing because I never knew how to write about myself in the present. When looking back on my outlines, I’ve realized that I tend to leave out important background information and rely on my imagery to convey the feelings of my experiences. However, as I started learning about the types of questions one should ask about other writers to fully understand what they’re writing about, I realized that my writing reveals very little about myself, apart from strong glimpses of feelings not grounded in any reality. My feedback from the peer review also confirmed the same issue, highlighting many places in my writing where there needed to be more background building. These exercises helped me keep my audience in mind while I was writing and pinpointing any blindspots I didn’t consider addressing.
